The Old(er) Norton

The new garage companion is a 1952 Norton ES2, and very nice it is to!
Had it a couple of weeks now, and its only today that I've had a decent run out on it. Sun is shining so a round trip to Epworth to have a coffee with the Squire (Mr A) should do it - 70 miles all in on quiet single carriage roads with a few detours, all at 50 to 55mph. Bike was fine - and why shouldn't it be - except that it likes to mark its territory. Steve has a small oil patch on his drive now to remind him of my visit.

Starting the 500 single is quite easy. Flood the carb, retard the ignition slightly via the handlebar lever, ease it to TDC compression stroke, operate the decompresser, swing it over and away she should go. The bike feels unhurried, which is just as well as the brakes are not what I'm used to so fifty five max is fine for now. Surprisingly, I quickly got used to the right hand gear change, down for up - muscle memory from the years on the Commando I guess.
