Dump the old oil - all now in the sump of course, and 4 1/2 pints of fresh in. Took a bit of searching to find the 7/8 WW spanner given its size.
Some petrol into the tank, give it a swill then remove the taps to let the crap out. Not alot it has to be said, but the reserve tap is blocked, so bit of wire sorts that out. Couple of litres back in and connect the petrol pipes. These are well hardened so not flexible at all but they'll do for now.
Move the air slide to 3/4, tickle the carbs and turn over to just before TDC. Ignition on and give a big swing........ chuff chuff chuff.
Turn over again, give it another swing and again a couple of chuffs.
Now I remember that if she didn't start on the second kick, then there was the chance of a backfire and I'd get it and be limping for an hour or two so it was with some trepidation that kick number three took place. Bit of a rumble and definite ignition but no start.
Fourth kick another chuffer.
Thinking about the fifth kick - should I put the big trials boots on to stop me ankle getting mangled?
Nah, give it some this time and then leave it for bit.
Bloody hell, she starts fifth kick!!
Not too much smoke, oil is returning and she ticks over. Clutch is dragging slightly so the backwheel is spinning, but after 20 years thats not too bad at all.
