Another day testing the waterproof qualities of the bike gear - everything held including gloves but only just. We set out back over the Gaularfjellt from Balestrand to Gaular and then kept going west until we hit the sea then turned south and east for a big 175 mile loop back to Balestrand. Stopped in Dale as the rain became particularly heavy and sheltered under a tree and had some snap. We weren't having fun to be honest so decided to take a steady run back. As it happens, it dried out about 30 miles from base and that helped to dry things out a bit. Interesting encounter between 3 hgv artics going one way and one coming the other on a twisting coastal road with only room for one and traffic building up behind them. We managed to squeeze past them all and didn't hang around - they're probably still there!!
Stopped off at the village centre for an ice cream of all things and a beer run but didn't get either as its Sunday and supermarket shut - however there was a fish & chip van open so that was tea sorted out and then back to the hostel for a bit of cruise ship watching (Seabourn Sojourn, and Ocean Princess for those who like to keep a track of things and we've given up waving) and then the euro footy final.

Round the coast to the start of the Gaularfjellt just past Dragsvik |

Under a tree in Dale as the rain pours down. |

Chip van in Balestrand - fisk & chips for Al, sausage & chips in curry saice for Nige |

St Olafs church in Balestarnd - Church of England would you believe!! |
This is last night here and we head south to Lofthus tomorrow by a roundabout route. We probably spent too long in Balestrand and would probably been better off with a shorter stay and moving further north to see more, but the quality of the accomodation has more than made up for it.
